It's 5:00 pm Sunday, and our heads are still above water. And we still have power. But Ida isn't through with Louisiana yet. It will be a long night for many of us. Even with all the preparation: taking down, stowing, tieing up, moving into the garage, and inventorying with a video camera, we remained on alert for anything. Meanwhile, St. Tammany Parish (County) was placed on a curfew until further notice starting at noon today. I'm sure some parts needed it. We had no reason to go out even if we wanted to. Of course, our hearts ache for all of those who are taking the brunt of the hurricane. But so far, we haven't heard of any deaths reported. Apparently, people are taking our government experts seriously. It also helps to have live coverage that shows why all the precautions are necessary. Hurricanes, like pandemics, are unpredictable. But we still have power. We're comfortable. And we're looking forward to taking advantage of the denuded Coop and porch so we can pressure wash it to kill all the mold from weeks of rain. We should be out of the danger zone in a few hours. I'm sure there will be another hurricane or two that will take aim on us. We will be prepared for them too. It's the price we pay for living here.
We're about 70 miles North-North-East of the eye. As it moves north it will get closer to us and the winds will most certainly pick up. They have already been strong enough to strip the tall pine trees of much of their needles.
It is going to be a long night.
