Well, it didn't take long after I started this new blog for a "Major Hurricane" to set its eyes squarely on our little corner of the world. History will call her Ida, and her name will probably be associated with death and destruction for a decade or two, or until another one comes along.
Ida's path is projected to land near New Orleans and continues right over us on its way north and east.
Like everyone else, we immediately started moving things into the garage or porch, or wherever there was some protection from the potential 100+ mph winds and driving rain. Fortunately, we are high enough above sea level to not worry about storm surge, but we do have to worry about some serious regional flooding and omnipresent tornados.
We know the drill and pretty much have everything as ready as we can make it. One last step is to fill a bathtub with water should we need to flush toilets.
New batteries are installed in our lanterns and the car is gassed up. Two days from now we will know if we did enough.
Such is life along the Gulf Coast.
